Queertawe

Newsletter, March 2025

We have had a very exciting few months. In December we hosted our amazing Queertawe Fringe to showcase all of the incredible work made by our Queertawe participants and commissioned artists! There was 7 events across the weekend, including a cabaret, food art, theatre, poetry, visual art, a murder mystery and more.

The Queertawe Fringe had 340 audience members across the weekend even when faced with storm Darragh’s strong winds. There were 42 participants who contributed writing, performance and art to be showcased in the Fringe and 6 commissioned artists sharing films, theatre and food art created with support of the Queertawe team.

This was all made possible by the amazing Queertawe team, all 5 of our venues across Swansea, 10 freelance artists who worked with us and the 9 volunteers who helped staff the events.

“QT has definitely been a positive impact on my mental health. Volunteering at the fringe festival 2024 led me to have conversations I would never have had with people I would never have met. It’s reignited my passion for writing, and I feel much more visible and settled in Swansea since moving last year. I also feel more accepted and less of an outsider. In a difficult world where it is hard to meet people outside of social media this has been a vital link to the real world for me.”

“After my marriage ended, Queer Tawe was a safe, nurturing space where I flourished as a performer and creative, and grew into my new identity undefined by age, gender, or marital status. I would have been sad and socially isolated without them.”
